Life's Like That

Its all about the money honey

I went to this optical solutions store today. Which is a fancy way of saying spectacle/contact lens showroom. One of my clients. While I was there, I saw this woman buying a pair of Mont Blanc spectacle frames. Worth Rs. 25,000. No you did not misread the number of zeros in that. She bought a pair of spectacle frames for twenty five thousand rupees. And thats just the cost of the frames. The lenses were another Rs. 12-15000. What I am not able to understand is :

A) Why does anyone need designer branded spectacle frames? Would other people even notice that you are wearing designer branded spectacles? Do any of you notice other peoples' spectacles to see which brand they are?

B) For someone to be able to afford that kind of money on spectacles, what kind of money would they be earning?

C) Am I cheap when it comes to spectacles? Coz I generally look for the cheapest frames, and moderately good quality lenses. How much would any of you spend on spectacles? Not sunglasses. Spectacles. Prescription eyewear. Choshma.

D) Why don't I make that kind of money?

E) Will I ever make the kind of money that will allow me to even consider buying spectacles /sunglasses of this kind?

Life is just not fair!! 25000 on spectacles!!!! God!!That kind of spending should be banned!! It makes stupefied bystanders like myself feel very bad about themselves.

  • Well thanks for the perspective, since I shall go shopping for glasses tomorrow.
And for the shades, recycling my old Rayban frame with new lenses.

    Thrift pays.

  • lol. my 2 cents: we all have diff incomes and we all have our preffered areas of luxury and scrimping. like irrespective of how broke or rich I am I always spend more than I should on things like ink and paper and phone bills and books and CD's and makeup and less than I should on clothes and food and travel ... depending on my income at that time the indiv amounts will vary ... but the priorities are same ... na?

lol @ the glasses though. mine cost 200 rupees (and i still use the contact lenses I bought 4.5 years ago

  • People do earn unreal amounts....and the super rich are nothing new in the world....

There are flats next to Forum where the rent is Rs. 1,00,000 per month. Unfurnished. At the same time there are perfectly livable apartments available for about 10k a month.

If you visit the Taj Mahal and Forts near Delhi you feel that 'this lind of wealth should be outlawed' !!

The idea I guess is to take it easy and be happy with what you have !

  • It is so not about the money, honey :)) (Do you hear sour grapes there?)
The thing is where do you draw the line? I heard on the radio some celebrity went and got hair done for 5000 dollars. can you believe that? 5000 stinking dollars for hair that will look like shit the next time you take a shower. And that would be over 2 lakh in Indian money, right? Isn't that kind of ridiculous?
But then some people like making headlines by flaunting their money. I's rather put in a safe spot and retire :)

  • Don't have hard feelings. Be lucid about where you are, what you do, what you want, what you need, and what you can afford. Everything that people around you do,is up to those people in question. They have different priorities and a quite different paradigm about things in life. Take it easy. If you desire to chase money, just do it. Luxury is a word coined by the brands in style. It is a different world altogether.

  • I found a website which is an Optical Lab that probably has the lowest priced sunglasses, glasses and eyeglasses at http://www.SimplyEyeglasses.com. They provide sun glasses, safety eyeglasses, eyewear, eye glasses with prescriptions lens. They have the biggest selection of prescription sunglasses, prescription glasses, prescription eyeglasses, and prescription safety glasses. When I bought my pair of glasses and had a question about them they responded to my email right away. I highly recommend them to anyone.

They have incredible prices on designer eyewear for the following: Prada Eyeglasses, Prada Glasses, Prada Sunglasses, and all Prada Eyewear. They have Gucci Eyeglasses, Gucci Glasses, Gucci Sunglasses, and all Gucci Eyewear. They have D&G Eyeglasses, D&G Glasses, D&G Sunglasses. They have Dolce Gabbana Eyeglasses, Dolce Gabbana Glasses. They have Rayban Eyeglasses, Rayban Glasses, Rayban Sunglasses, and all Rayban Eyewear. They have Ray-Ban Eyeglasses, Ray-Ban Glasses, Ray-Ban Sunglasses, and all Ray-Ban Eyewear. They have Ray Ban Eyeglasses, Ray Ban Glasses, Ray Ban Sunglasses.
